New Nike NFL Uniforms and Beginning of the National Football League

Beginning of the National Football League and New Nike NFL Uniforms

The National Football League began in 1920 in Canton, OH and was first named the American Professional Football Association.  It kept that name for only two years when the name was changed to the National Football League (NFL).  George Halas, who was the Chicago Staleys coach received the team from a business known as Staley Starch Works and started the football league with only 12 teams.  Only two of those teams still remain of the original 12 and they are the Chicago Cardinals who have since been named the Arizona Cardinals and the Chicago Staleys; who have since been named the Chicago Bears.

The NFL isn’t just in America however, there are National Football Leagues located in Japan, Sweden, Germany, Israel, the United Kingdom and Mexico.  The NFL also created a league that ran in Europe from 1991 – 1992 and then again from 1995 – 2006.   Some of the history of American football can be found in some earlier versions of rugby and soccer. Both of these games have roots in different types of football which was played in the United Kingdom from the mid-19th century, where a ball was run over the designated line or a ball was kicked toward the goal. Just like soccer, American football has 22 players on the field during every play. Some titles from soccer player positions are the same today in American football like halfback and fullback.

After playing the NFL Championship game in 1958, the popularity of football grew and was soon considered the “greatest game ever played.”  That still holds true today; fans are everywhere, they are young and old, male and female and some folks take their football very seriously.  They wear their New Nike NFL Uniforms at every game and even on the days in between the games to show their support for their favorite teams and their favorite players.  Football is a way of life in America and that won’t be changing anytime soon.

While over the years some of the rules have changed and a lot of the people have changed, the NFL remains about the same.  A team has to try to get the ball into the end zone by increasing their yardage with every play.  If the team can advance the ball and continue getting first downs as they progress then they will eventually make it to the end zone.  If not, they might be able to get close enough for their kicker to kick a field goal.  However, when that doesn’t happen, they lose the ball and they have to kick off to the other team.  A touchdown is worth 6 points, a field goal worth 3 points, a 2 point conversion is 2 points, obviously, and the extra point after a touchdown is worth the 1 extra point.

When football day rolls around, all the fans gather at the stadium, in their living room, at a sports bar or wherever, wear their New Nike NFL Uniforms and hang out with their friends to cheer on their favorite team.  There is nothing quite like a Sunday full of football!
